Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate: Upgraded Vitamin C, More Stable Effect

图片2

●What is Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate ?

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP), chemical name L-ascorbic acid-2-phosphate trisodium salt (molecular formula CHNaOP, CAS No. 66170-10-3), is a stable derivative of vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Traditional vitamin C is limited in cosmetic applications due to its poor water solubility and easy oxidation and discoloration. SAP, however, solves the stability problem by phosphate modification – it can remain active for a long time in a dry state, and the aqueous solution gradually releases active vitamin C when it encounters light, heat or metal ions.

Physical and chemical properties:

Appearance: White to off-white crystalline powder, suitable for transparent formula without color interference

Solubility: easily soluble in water (789g/L, 20), slightly soluble in propylene glycol, good compatibility with water-based essences and facial mask liquids

pH value: 9.0-9.5 (30g/L aqueous solution), close to the weak acid environment of the skin, reducing irritation

Stability: Stable in dry air, aqueous solution is stored away from light to prevent degradation, extending the shelf life of the product to 24 months

Heavy metal control: 10ppm, arsenic salt 2ppm, in line with international safety standards

What are the benefits of the Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate ?

1. Whitening And Spot-Lightening Mechanism

Tyrosinase inhibition: It is decomposed into active vitamin C by phosphatase in the skin, blocking the melanin production pathway. Clinical data show that its melanin inhibition rate is 3 times higher than that of ordinary vitamin C;

Photodamage repair: It works with sunscreens (such as zinc oxide) to increase SPF value and reduce UV-induced erythema and pigmentation.

2. Antioxidant And Anti-Aging

Free radical scavenging: Sodium ascorbyl phosphate is 4 times more efficient than vitamin E, neutralizes reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by photoaging, and protects collagen structure;

Collagen synthesis promotion: It activates fibroblasts. Clinical trials show that adding 3% SAP to a cream can reduce wrinkle depth by 40%.

Safety And Mildness

Zero risk of allergy: The US CIR has certified that it is absolutely safe when the concentration in leave-on and rinse-off products is ≤3%, suitable for sensitive skin and post-medical repair;

No phototoxicity: There is no contraindication to compounding with retinol and acids, and it is suitable for high-efficiency formulas.

What Are The Applications Of Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate ?

1. Cosmetics And Personal Care

Whitening essence: 3%-5% added (such as SkinCeuticals CE essence), compounded with niacinamide to enhance melanin inhibition rate;

Sunscreen and anti-aging: add 0.2%-1% of sodium ascorbyl phosphate in day cream to repair photodamage of Langerhans cells;

Anti-acne products: inhibit Propionibacterium acnes, and use salicylic acid to regulate oil secretion.

2. Medicine And Biotechnology

Wound healing: Sodium ascorbyl phosphate can promote collagen deposition, used for burn repair dressings, with an effective rate of 85%;

Diagnostic reagents: as a substrate for alkaline phosphatase (ALP), detect disease markers such as bone disease and liver cancer.

3. Functional Food (Exploration Stage)

Oral antioxidants: used in anti-glycation oral liquids in the Japanese market to delay skin glycosylation and yellowing.
